Rocky Mountain National Park

Yesterday I had the opportunity to spend one more day at the park with my friend Michele. What an awesome day it was. Not a lot of the 'big guys' were out but after spending some time there you realize there is so much more to see.
We met about seven in the morning and the first thing we encountered were a couple coyote pups frolicking outside their den. (See 'Fauna & Flora' for photos). We traveled into the park and saw a few elk and then decided to do a couple walks. We first walked around Sprague Lake, then moved to Bear Lake, and lastly we attempted Cub Lake. The hike to Cub Lake was not difficult, it was just oh, so, far and by the time we got there we were two pretty tired gals. Michele kept track of how far we walked and it looks like we walked about 8.7 miles with an elevation gain of 36 stories!
All in all it was an awesome day...so much to see and not nearly enough time. Next time we come to Colorado we will definitely spend several days camping up inside the park.

 In 1982 the Lawn Lake Dam broke early in the morning of July 15th and flooded the town of Estes Park, forever changing it's landscape. This is part of the Alleuvial fan where the rocks that cascaded down the hill finally settled. In the afternoon this is also one of the spots where the Bighorn Sheep cross. Yesterday they were more inclined to stay up at the higher elevations.

 We saw a moose! Sort of..yep, he would not come any closer while we were hanging out at Beaver Pond.

On our walk to Cub Lake we saw so many female elk...figured this was the place where they congregate!
